Every Scar Tells A Story, Mine Led Me Here

"I didn’t become a therapist by accident. My first career as a correctional officer ended when my gambling addiction nearly destroyed everything I had built. I hit rock bottom.

But rock bottom became the foundation I rebuilt my life on. My scars became my strength; and now, my purpose is guiding others through their own healing."

From Rock Bottom...

...To Resilience

Mission Statement

At Scars To Strength Counseling, our mission is to help individuals turn pain into purpose through compassionate, honest, and transformative mental health care. We are committed to creating a space there people feel seen beyond their struggles, empowered through their healing, and supported in becoming the strongest version of themselves.

Our Core Values

Resilience

We believe survival is not the end of the story. Pain can becoe growth, identity, and strength.

Authenticity

Healing begins when people no longer have to hide who they are or what they've survived.

Accountability

Real transformation requires honesty, ownership, and the courage to change.

Compassion

Every person deserves to be met with dignity, empathy, and respect... Not judgement.

Purpose

We help people turn scars, setbacks, and suffering into meaning, direction and lasting change.

  • Owner/Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor I

  • "Losing my first career forced me to face addiction head-on, but it also opened the door to something bigger. It lead me to a life dedicated to helping others heal.

I went back to school and earned two degrees: a Master's in Human Services and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. That education, combines with advanced clinical training, prepared me to serve both individuals battling addiction and those struggling with a wide range of mental health challenges.

Today, I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor 1 (LADC1). I specialize in addiction recovery and trauma-informed care, while also providing support for anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, and life transitions. I am also working toward LMFT licensure to further expand my impact.

I don't hide my past. It's what makes me human. My scars are proof that strength is possible and they give me a unique perspective that blends professional expertise with lived experience."

  • Partner/Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor II

  • "Healing is possible, and you don't have to do it alone. I’m a Black addiction counselor in long-term recovery with many years of experience walking alongside individuals, families, and communities on the path toward wellness. My work is grounded in both professional expertise and lived experience, allowing me to meet clients with empathy, authenticity, and deep respect for their stories.

I specialize in trauma-informed care, understanding how trauma, stress, and systemic challenges shape substance use and mental health. I have extensive experience supporting first responders, individuals in crisis, and those navigating high-stress environments where strength is expected but support is often lacking. My approach prioritizes safety, trust, and empowerment: helping clients regain a sense of control and resilience at their own pace.

Cultural identity matters in healing. I bring a strong awareness of cultural differences, racial stress, and historical trauma, and I work to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood without judgment. Whether you are seeking recovery support, crisis intervention, or a counselor who truly understands the intersections of trauma, culture, and addiction, my goal is to walk with you toward sustainable healing and hope."
